Behind The Seams
Sztain Lewen's Sustainability Journey
Becoming more sustainable and socially responsible has been an evolving goal at Sztain Lewen since the labels’ inception. From the way we design to the way we produce, down to the final product, labels, and packaging - integrating more sustainable practices across the company and accounting for the welfare of our planet and our people has been a high priority concern for us. We’re not perfect just yet, but we’d like to share our behind the scenes progress thus far.
We have decided to concentrate our efforts into three main pillars of influence:
01 | A Responsible Consumption & Production Model
No Overproduction
As part of our operational business structure, and as a first step in exercising sustainable practices, Sztain Lewen is committed to producing in small quantities, or on a pre-order basis to help minimize excess fabric and unsold inventory waste, which account for 10% of the world’s carbon emission. In addition, our green consumption model supports high circularity of textiles to ensure an efficient production cycle of each and every garment.
Local Production
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Sztain Lewen is designed and entirely produced locally- from the garment to the packaging and labeling, ensuring ongoing quality control and reduction of ecological footprint.
02 | People & Planet - We are all citizens of the same earth
In the heart of our operational process are the people we work with. Over the years we have built strong relationships with a network of trusted and beloved employees and suppliers whom we work closely with. Integrating principles in line with the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in our day- to- day operations is of utmost importance to us. We employ ethical & fair trade practices, including fair payment, ensuring high standard working conditions, and zero tolerance to child labor or enforced labor on any grounds. We are commitment to non-discrimination, gender equity, and women’s economic empowerment.
We pride ourselves in employing sewing shops that employs def and muted employees, and strive to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged manufacturers. We believe in making decisions with love, respect & consideration to the planet.
03 | A Responsible Product
The core of our business is the product we create. How and where it’s made- matters. We are constantly evolving, challenging both design and production by seeking new ways to integrate ethically sourced eco- friendly fabrics and materials and introducing new processes that mitigate the impact on the environment each season.
Design approach
Our approach to crafting our designs is simple: High-quality, durable materials, and unique timeless designs. We design with longevity in mind, aiming to produce garments that last ”forever”. In addition, our pieces are crafted to be functional, practical, and versatile, meant to be worn day to night.
In Conclusion
We don’t claim to be perfect, but we are fully minded and well aware of the adverse implications of our actions as a retail business, and we constantly strive to improve our sustainability credentials, make better decisions and hold ourselves accountable to taking initiatives to make positive social and environmental changes both internally with our employees and with our external partners.
